Spotlight on our Staff
Michelle Bock, LPN Administrator/District Manager |
Althea and Fred Newman have been cared for by Michelle for the past year and a half. Althea struggles with a long standing wound that requires constant care and attention. It has been a long journey for Althea and her husband Fred. They have been patients of other agencies in the past but as Fred explains, “Nobody takes care of Althea like Michelle.” Michelle truly cares about Althea and feels blessed to be able to affect others lives in a positive way. To Fred and Althea, the nurses aren’t just taking care of Althea, they are family. To the staff, Fred and Althea are family as well. They look forward to the day when Althea’s wound is finally healed. However, it will be one of those bittersweet moments those in Home Health Care experience......happy she is healed …….but sad to realize they are no longer needed.
Ruby Thompson is an LPN who began working for our company in December 2007 in our office in Naples, Florida. Ruby began her career in accounting and business after high school and worked in business offices for almost 20 years. She worked in various nursing home offices and was able to see first hand how the nurses that worked there loved their jobs. Ruby also witnessed a few patients over the years that were not receiving the quality of care she thought they should. That is what prompted her into wanting to take care of that unfortunate situation by becoming a nurse herself and making sure the patients were well taken care of. So, at the age of 40, she attended nursing school and became a nurse. Ruby knew from the start that home health care was the field she would enjoy the most. Working in our Naples Florida office during the winter months, Ruby lives in Ohio during the summer months and will be working with our sister company, Cambridge Home Health Care in Columbus during the spring and summer seasons. Each year, she travels back and forth between Ohio and Florida and has officially become a "snowbird" herself!
Shortly after Ruby became a nurse, her thoughts and dreams of giving good quality care became a reality. She remembers caring for a patient who had been fighting an ankle wound and bone infection for approximately 5 years and had almost given up. The patient voiced the desire of just wanting to die because she did not want to continue living with her wound and illness. It was a long hard battle, but after 1 year together, Ruby helped her patient make it through the hard times. The bone infection was gone and the wound was healed. The patient, who was in her early 60's and retired, could once again enjoy life and experience the things she loved to do. Even after the nursing care was finished, they continue to have a wonderful friendship and still keep it touch. Ruby knew then, becoming a nurse was the most rewarding and best decision she had ever made.
